They did not agree to sell Thiago Silva to the club for an impressive sum of 46 million euros. The 27-year-old footballer would have become the most expensive defender in the world.
"The offer was interesting and reached almost 46 million euros. We considered the possibility of selling him and looked for candidates in the market to fill the center-back position, but suitable replacements simply do not exist," said Milan vice president Adriano Galliani.
Meanwhile, the club owner Silvio Berlusconi reassured: "We have no intention of selling Silva. He is a great man, so we will offer to extend his contract. We hope to have the best defense next season."
For now, the most expensive defender in football history is represented by Rio Ferdinand of "Man Utd". In 2001, Leeds received as much as 41 million euros for him. Fabio Coentrao occupies the second place, having exchanged Lisbon's Benfica for Madrid's Real for 33 million euros last year.
Last season, PSG finished second in the French championship. The club is currently owned by businessmen from Qatar, who spare no expense in acquiring new players.
