On Sunday, the main derby of Vilnius football clubs will take place at the stadium of the Lithuanian Football Federation. The A League debutant team "REO" will play against "Žalgiris". The coaches of "REO" say that the opponents have many advantages, but they do not intend to easily give away three points to one of the leaders of the championship.
"Of course, 'Žalgiris' has many advantages. This is also reflected in the current standings of the tournament. Their goals in the A League are completely different from 'REO'. A major advantage of 'Žalgiris' is their artificial pitch, which is not as it should be, but they are used to it and use it to their advantage. 'Žalgiris' has many good players, a long bench of substitutes, which our team lacks. They can change the composition of the team, replace players, and those changes will not weaken the team, but may even strengthen it. But we do not intend to throw in the towel and allow the opponents to easily score three points. This is the Vilnius derby, so tough matches are expected," said the legendary Lithuanian footballer Valdas Ivanauskas consulting the A League debutants.
According to V. Ivanauskas, in the last few matches against their direct rivals, the "REO" footballers have achieved their goals. However, the coaches were not satisfied with the last half hour of the game in the previous round match against Pakruojis "Kruoja", when "REO" did not hold on to a two-goal advantage and ended in a 2-2 draw. "Against Pakruojis 'Kruoja', we played well for 60 minutes, but then we stopped playing football. We hope that we have managed to find out the reasons for this. And now we are preparing for the next match against 'Žalgiris'," said V. Ivanauskas consulting "REO".
The renowned football specialist emphasized that matches against strong opponents are beneficial. "During such matches, you can see what your team is really worth, and the players will have to prove whether they are deserving of a higher position or not," said V. Ivanauskas.
The match between "Žalgiris" and "REO" will take place on June 17 (Sunday) at 4 p.m. at the Lithuanian Football Federation stadium.
