The nineteen-year-old goalkeeper Scott Carson took the blame for a crucial away goal conceded in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on Tuesday.

"At the time I didn't think it was a mistake, but I watched the moment on television and feel like I could have played better," said Carson, who made his debut in Liverpool's victorious match against Juventus.

"But I won't blame myself for this mistake. If you prepare for the next games thinking 'I made a mistake in the last match,' you won't succeed in the next one."

Carson let in a header from a corner in the 63rd minute, giving the Italian team an advantage with an away goal before the second leg of the quarterfinals.

"After the match, I talked to the club's goalkeeper coach," added the England youth international, who joined Liverpool from. "He said the ball bounced off the ground right in front of me. Sometimes it happens. Forget about it."

Carson's teammate Milan Baros said that even after conceding a goal at home, Liverpool can still reach the semifinals.

"We know the second leg will be tough, but we are leading 2-1 and they will have to play," said the Czech forward. "We can't go there just thinking about defense. We have to attack and try to score. So far we have played well in the Champions League, and I don't think the atmosphere in Turin will put us under any pressure."

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who made two fantastic saves in the first 25 minutes after Liverpool's strong start, was satisfied with the one-goal difference after the first leg.

"It could have been worse," he said. "They started very aggressively and led by two goals. But in the second half, we showed aggression and managed to score one. However, their quick start disrupted our plans."

The Italian international goalkeeper noted that the heated atmosphere at Anfield, in the first match between these teams since the Heysel Stadium tragedy 20 years ago, lifted the home team.

"It was a great atmosphere, very intense," he said. "The fans were really like an extra weapon for them."
