Could Scotland's "Premier" football league exist without Glasgow "Rangers"? This scenario could happen in the 2012-13 season.
The "Rangers" team is not included in the 2012-13 season calendar, which has already been announced on the official league website.
The "Rangers" place in the calendar has been left open ("Club 12"), so if the Glasgow team were ultimately removed from the "Premier" league, their place would be taken by either "Dunfermline" relegated to a lower division or "Dundee" club, which finished second in the First (second in terms of capacity) division.
The "Rangers", the most successful football club in Scotland, are burdened by debts of millions, which they may not be able to reduce by the start of the new season. It is said that currently the "Rangers" debts could amount to 134 million pounds, with about 93 million in unpaid taxes to the state.
Last season, 10 points were deducted from "Rangers" due to debts. This allowed the title of champions to be won by their fiercest rival - Glasgow "Celtic" club. "Rangers" finished in second place.
Whether to allow "Rangers" to participate in the 2012-13 championship will ultimately be decided by the clubs themselves. At least 8 out of 11 clubs must agree for it to be allowed. The decision will be made on July 4th.
Founded 140 years ago, the "Rangers" club became the Scottish champions a total of 54 times.
