Slaven Bilić, the coach of the Croatian national team, admitted the superiority of the opponents after losing to Spain.
"We fought against the world champions, so we tried to neutralize their game," the specialist said. "I think it was difficult for them. Several teams can beat the Spaniards, but it is not easy. We knew we would have two or three chances, but we needed to convert them to hope for success."
Bilić was not satisfied with the work of referee Wolfgang Stark, but did not deny that controversial decisions did not determine the outcome of the match.
"Playing against the European champions, they don't need any help. Sometimes the referee helped them, but what can I do? It didn't matter," he said.
He added: "Spain is the best team, they want victories and trophies. We had a chance to stop them, but we couldn't. However, there are other teams that may not be of such high class, but are hungry for victories and aggressive, so anything is possible."
It was previously announced that after the tournament, Bilić is leaving his position and will coach the Moscow "Lokomotiv" club next season.
