Andrej Shevchenko confirmed the end of his career in the Ukrainian national team after the group stage of the European Championship.
The 35-year-old footballer represented his country for the 111th time in the 0-1 loss to England. The Ukrainians did not qualify for the quarterfinals.
"I want to play another game and say goodbye to the fans and friends," he said. "Everyone's time to retire eventually comes."
Shevchenko scored his first goal for the national team in 1996 and since then has scored a total of 48 times. The farewell match should be held in the next few weeks.
Last season, the Ukrainian played for Kyiv's Dynamo club and is currently a free agent. It is said that he may move to the United States.
