Andrés Iniesta, the Spanish national team midfielder, was recognized as the best player of the 2012 European Championship.
This decision, as well as the best team of the tournament, was selected by a UEFA working group composed of prominent specialists such as Fabio Capello, Gérard Houllier, Lars Lagerback, and others.
The group's leader, Andy Roxburgh, said: "Italian national team midfielder Andrea Pirlo played amazingly, last time the prize winner Xavi and again was worthy of it. Xabi Alonso also played well, but Andrés Iniesta stood out from all with his creative and sharp football that he demonstrated throughout the entire championship."
In the symbolic best Euro 2012 team out of 23 players, there are even ten Spaniards.
