In the latest FIFA world national team ranking, the European Championship finalist Italy made a huge leap, rising six positions to sixth place. The leader position was maintained by Spain, the defending champion of the Old Continent, while Germany, defeated in the semi-finals, jumped to second place, surpassing Uruguay. England found itself in fourth place, and Portugal, surpassing five teams, in fifth. Brazil experienced perhaps the biggest blow, falling from the top ten to 11th place.
