Pele: The 1970 Brazilian national team would beat the current Spain © EuroFootball.com

Brazil's national team in 1970 was made up of individually more talented football players than the current Spanish national team, says legendary Pele.

When asked who would win the battle between the twice in a row European champions, the strongest team in the world in 2010, the Spaniards, and the Brazilians who won the World Cup more than four decades ago, Pele said: "If I were playing, then without a doubt we would win. As long as there are comparisons with 1970, then that team is better, because it set the standard for future generations."

The Brazil of that time, whose leaders besides Pele were Rivellino, Gerson, Tostao and Jairzinho, won the World Cup by crushing Italy 4-1 in the final.

Pele, who retired from the national team a year later, highlighted the strength of that team: "In 1970, the team had many more individually talented players, as in the current Spanish team we would only find two or three. However, the Spaniards play the kind of football that I like the most out of everything I've seen over the past couple of decades."
