The new coach of the Dutch national team has officially been appointed as Louis van Gaal.

The 60-year-old specialist has previously managed his country's team from 2000-2002, but was forced to resign after failing to qualify for the World Cup final stage in Japan and South Korea.

The strict Van Gaal will replace Bert van Marwijk, who was dismissed after this year's tragic European Championship. The Dutch, considered favorites, lost all three group stage matches and did not qualify for the quarterfinals.

Throughout his career, experienced Dutchman has won national championships in four countries seven times, as well as the UEFA Champions League with Ajax from Amsterdam.

In May 2011, he left the Munich team Bayern, with which he had lost the Champions League final match to Inter Milan the year before.
