Leverkusen refused to sell winger Andre Schurrle to a London club for 25 million euros. The 21-year-old footballer is considered one of the most promising in Germany, but until now it was thought that his price could be slightly lower - about 20 million euros.
"We received a concrete offer from Chelsea for Andre - the amount exceeded 20 million euros," said Bayer executive Wolfgang Holzhauser. "But ultimately we decided to reject it."
He added: "Schurrle has enormous potential, so he is very valuable. He himself has confirmed that he has no plans to leave anywhere."
Last season in the German championship, the young player scored seven times in 31 matches. In the recently concluded European Championship, he appeared on the field twice - once as a substitute and once in the starting lineup.
