Gerardo Pelusso has officially been appointed as the new coach of the Paraguay national team.

Until now, the Paraguayans, who reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup, were trained by Francisco Arce, but he was dismissed as the Paraguayans currently occupy the second-to-last position in the group for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

So far, the 58-year-old Pelusso has coached Paraguay's oldest club, "Olimpia", and last season won the national championship with them.

"We were looking for a coach who would work in our country. I think he knows the local players very well, so he was the only candidate," said the president of the country's football association, Juan Angelis Napout.

Pelusso will make his debut on August 15 in a friendly match against China.
