London's "Arsenal" demanded fee for forward Robin van Persie seemed too high for Turin's "Juventus" team.
The Italian champions were considered favorites in the race for the player's signature.
"Juventus" general director Giuseppe Marotta admitted that the conditions set by the London club regarding the player's transfer clash with reality.
"A top-class footballer must be valued not only by his price. He must prove his worth on the field," stated G. Marotta.
"Van Persie is a fantastic player, but "Arsenal" is not planning to let him go. We cannot attract the Dutchman if the club owners do not intend to sell him. I think talks about our interest in Van Persie are exaggerated," he added.
One of the English Premier League players has already arrived in Turin - former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
When asked to comment on the arrival of the captain of the French national U-21 team, G. Marotta said: "He will undergo a medical check-up and then we will finalize the details of his future contract."
Manchester United's head coach Alex Ferguson blames the 19-year-old for not showing respect to the club when he decided not to extend his contract this summer and moved to "Juventus."
