Legendary Ukrainian footballer Andriy Shevchenko has announced the end of his professional football career.

The 35-year-old player mentioned in an official statement that he intends to pursue political activities.

"This may shock some, but I do not see my future in football," Shevchenko said. "I will try myself in politics. I hope for all of your support."

The Ukrainian is considered one of the best European forwards of the past decade. Starting his career at Kiev's "Dynamo," he later moved to "Milan," where he scored 175 goals in 322 matches, winning the Italian championship and the UEFA Champions League.

In 2006, he moved to London's "Chelsea" for 43.8 million euros, but he did not shine in England and scored 22 goals in 77 matches. Later, Shevchenko once again wore the "Milan" shirt for a while before ending his career at his first club, Kiev's "Dynamo."

In his last season, he scored six goals in 16 matches.
