Last season, defense was the line that allowed the dream Champions League trophies to be won. There are no changes, which is a bit gloomy. A significant part of the defenders' line players can only play episodic roles. The current "Chelsea" defense line will not be able to repeat the crazy three-month defense for the entire season. Bertrand, Hutchinson too young, Ferreira deteriorated, and 5 defenders for 4 spots - the lineup is tragic. There are not many rumors about new defenders, but Azpilicueta would make the situation quite tolerable.
Midfielders
Overloaded. 14 nominal midfielders in the team - this summer Oscar, the Hazard brothers, and Marin arrived. Yes, it's possible that Essien, Malouda, and perhaps Benayoun will leave, but it is still an overloaded line. Of course, last season the most important people in the midfield were those who performed defensive functions, the newcomers will allow switching to more attacking schemes. But it is still difficult to imagine how everyone will fit on the field.
Forwards
The line where reinforcement is needed the most. Torres is unstable, Sturridge was completely extinguished in the second part of last season, Lukaku is too green. Hole plugger Mata will probably spend 95 percent of his time not in the forward line. However, it is likely that there will be one purchase - the dream Hulk. With his capabilities, it is realistic that "Chelsea" will play with only one forward scheme. On the other hand, he is not a pure forward, likes to play on the wing. Perhaps the attack will not cause problems when there are a huge number of attacking midfielders and wingers in the team, but it may be that the man in the heart of the attack will only perform the duties of a tree (or shapeless Torres).
So, the summer is chaotic. There are more midfielders than needed, no room left for the old in the attack, and there is an obvious gap, impressive defenders but few reliable ones. Of course, the way "Chelsea" has spent money so far looks impressive, but the composition is still vulnerable. It seems that the team bought not what it needs, but what Abramovich wants. Of course, "Chelsea" fans are happy, waiting for Hulk and getting rid of unnecessary veterans. But probably the MC, MU, "Spurs", "Arsenal" coaches are also happy because "Chelsea" once again has vulnerable spots.
