In the semi-finals of the London Olympics, the Mexican national team defeated Japan's U-23 national team 3:1.

Surprisingly, Yuki Otsu took Japan ahead in the 12th minute, but Marco Fabian equalized the score in the 31st minute.
The scales turned in favor of the Mexicans in the 65th minute, when Oscar Peralta defeated the Japanese goalkeeper with a great shot. The victory was secured in extra time of the second half by Cortes.

In the final, the Mexican national team will face the winner of the pair Brazil and South Korea.
