Vilanova: I am surprised by those who criticize Valdes. © EuroFootball.com

At the press conference held before the match against Pamplona's "Osasuna," the head coach discussed the team's recent affairs. Tito Vilanova also faced questions from journalists about Victor Valdes' performance in the Spanish Super Cup match. At the end of the game, the Catalan team's goalkeeper made a childish mistake, lost the ball, and allowed Madrid's "Real" to soften the result. "I am amazed by those who start criticizing Valdes. It's strange that someone still has doubts. Barcelona has won four Champions League trophies, three of which are thanks to him. He is the best goalkeeper in the world and the best goalkeeper for Barcelona. The mistake made in the game against Real will not affect him," Vilanova assured. Immediately after the match, the coach admitted he had not spoken with the goalkeeper: "What is there to talk about? Everything is clear - Valdes must continue to play." In the application for the match against "Osasuna," the coach included forward Cristian Tello, and once again confirmed at the press conference that the team does not intend to waive the services of this player. "Cristian was never on any lists - neither among those who could be sold nor among those who could be loaned. He remains in the team. Tello is young and ambitious, but he still needs to improve. He is striving for it excellently," noted the Catalan. However, Vilanova spoke much more cautiously about three players not invited to the match against "Osasuna": "It's my personal decision. There are no hidden reasons. Jonathan dos Santos, Ibrahim Afellay, and Andreu Fontas will not play in the match in Pamplona. Anyway, we are not a public club." The coach did not deny considerations that these players could leave the team, but immediately added that there is a possibility that "they may still remain in the team."
