The Munich club spared no expense of 40 million euros to acquire Javi Martinez from Bilbao Athletic. This is a record deal in German football history.
The 23-year-old footballer, who was also sought after by Barcelona and Man City, has committed to represent the German team for five seasons.
Athletic did not want to lose one of their team leaders, but he took advantage of the right to buy out his contract for the specified amount. As a result, the total value of the deal became even greater, but Martinez himself covered this difference.
"Of course, this is a huge amount of money. However, the player himself is also involved in this deal, contributing a significant sum," said Bayern director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. "The negotiations were complex, but we are pleased that Martinez is finally with us."
The Spaniard also expressed his satisfaction at becoming part of the Bayern team: "I can't wait to represent this famous club for the first time. Last season in the Spanish championship, Martinez scored four goals in 31 matches."
