Rafael Benitez does not hide his disappointment that he did not receive an offer to return to the Liverpool club.
The 53-year-old coach, who led the 'Reds' to win the FA Cup and the Champions League, expressed disappointment that his candidacy was not seriously considered this summer when a replacement for Kenny Dalglish was sought.
"It's strange that I didn't receive a phone call," said Benitez. "I know the club well, the players, the youth development structure. Besides, I have more experience now, and the fans would appreciate that positively."
He added: "Just a few years ago, Liverpool was number one in Europe."
Brendan Rodgers was appointed as the new coach of the English team, but in the first three matches of the Premier League, his players only managed to secure one point.
