Jens Lehmann would like to represent the German national team at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil.
In 2011, the German retired professional footballer does not hide his desire to help his country's team, which will compete in five-a-side football. Four players on the pitch are visually impaired or partially sighted with blindfolds on, while the goalkeeper is allowed to see but cannot leave the goal area.
"I am very interested in this," Lehmann said. "I will definitely be interested in such an opportunity."
Friedhelm Julius Beucher, President of the German Disabled Sports Association, said: "There are no requirements for a goalkeeper to be disabled. So Jens Lehmann, Oliver Kahn or another retired player can theoretically be on the team. We will consider this issue."
