Portugal's champion club has decided to strengthen for the next season with Argentinian players - last season's Champions League winners from "River Plate" have acquired Luis Gonzalez, also adding "Racing" forward Lisandro Lopez to the team.
"Porto" paid 3.6 million euros to acquire half of the rights to the 24-year-old midfielder Gonzalez, better known as "Lucho," from the "River Plate" club. Meanwhile, "Racing" will receive 2.35 million euros for 50% of Lopez's contract. The remaining rights to the players will belong to an international football agency.
"Lucho," who helped the Argentinian national team win gold at the Olympic Games last summer, signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese club. This player started his career at the "Huracan" team and moved to "River Plate" in 2002.
22-year-old Lopez, who signed a four-year contract with "Porto," was the top scorer in the first half of this year's Argentine league, scoring 14 goals in 26 matches. On March 9, he made his debut for the national team in a match against Mexico and the USA. In Portugal, he will not be considered a foreign player, as he acquired Italian citizenship last November.
