The French national team and defender Robert Pires admitted that he does not rule out the possibility of returning to France if he fails to reach an agreement with his current club.
Pires' contract with Arsenal is still valid for another season, but the player is not very optimistic about his future at the club, as they may only offer him a one-year contract extension.
Pires would also like to stay at the London club, but he does not rule out the possibility of returning to France's Ligue 1, where he played at the beginning of his career when he represented another team.
The player is actively interested in the Spanish champion, who intends to renew significantly after an unsuccessful season. Pires also revealed that he was offered a contract by the champions of Ligue 1 during the winter transfer window, so if he were to decide to return to his homeland, there is a high probability that he would choose Lyon.
"I know that Lyon showed a lot of interest in me during the last transfer window," Pires told The Sun. "I would be willing to represent this team and I don't think it would be a step back in my career."
"It would be a great honor to represent the same team as my former team-mate Sylvain Wiltord again, but for now, I am focused on the battles in England with Arsenal and trying not to think about what will happen after the season ends."
