England's national team coach Roy Hodgson revealed that striker Wayne Rooney was not appointed as the captain of the national team in the match against San Marino for no reason.
The 26-year-old footballer will take on the permanent duties when defender Steven Gerrard takes a well-deserved break.
"W. Rooney was already the vice-captain of the national team in the last European Championship, when he could once again step onto the field," said the coach.
"Of course, I dream of one day becoming the permanent captain. In my early youth, I dreamed of playing for the England national team, and now I hope that another wish will come true," Rooney said.
