During the 2014 World Cup qualifying tournament, the Lithuanian national team suffered their second failure, losing 0-3 to the group leaders Bosnia and Herzegovina away from home.
Bosnia and Herzegovina 3 - 0 Lithuania 28' [1 - 0] V.Ibisevic 35' [2 - 0] E.Dzeko 41' [3 - 0] M.Pjanic
The guests started the match well and, as the hosts struggled to find their rhythm, they launched several dangerous attacks. The closest to scoring was defender Valdemaras Borovskij, but after a sharp pass, the Bosnian player found himself alone in front of the empty goal and gave the opponents a chance to defend.
However, the hope of achieving a positive result quickly vanished at the stadium of the group favorites. The Bosnians, who had been passive until then, launched three attacks on the Lithuanian goal in less than 15 minutes, resulting in three shots and three goals past Csaba Laszlo's coached team.
First, after a sharp pass, Vedad Ibisevic jumped ahead of Žydrūnas Karčemarskas and sent the ball into the net with a powerful shot.
Before the Lithuanians could recover from this blow, the "Man City" forward Edin Dzeko, who had been quiet in the game until then, found the target once again with a precise shot after another mistake by the central defenders.
As if that wasn't enough, at the end of the half, after the same Dzeko's accurate pass, Miralem Pjanic scored the final goal into the Lithuanian team's net.
After the break, the Bosnians maintained control of the ball, while the Lithuanians launched several attacks, but could not find the consolation goal.
