The National Statistics Office announced that nearly one million tourists traveled to England last year to watch football matches. The influx of sports fans to the United Kingdom brought in $1.12 billion USD.

It is estimated that the Premier League matches attracted about 900 thousand tourists, each of whom spent an average of $1256 USD in the country, as reported by the AP agency.

The tourism sector employees are pleased that the ranks of English football fans are growing - in 2010, 750 thousand people came to watch football.

The matches of "Manchester United" and "Liverpool" teams were the most popular among tourists. Also, a lot of attention was drawn to the games of London clubs such as "Arsenal," "Chelsea," and "Tottenham Hotspur."

A study of statistical data revealed that the majority of football-loving tourists who came to the Premier League were from Ireland (174 thousand), Norway (80 thousand), the US (61 thousand), Spain (54 thousand), and Germany (48 thousand).
