Amsterdam defender Maxwell suffered a serious knee injury and will not play for up to eight months, the Dutch club announced on Friday.
The 23-year-old Brazilian suffered the injury during the Dutch Cup semi-final match against "Willem II" on Thursday. Tests revealed that the player had torn cruciate ligaments.
"Ajax" is currently in second place in the Dutch championship and is seventeen points behind the leaders "PSV", but has played one game less.
