General Director of Content "Juventus" Giuseppe Marotta defended the club's player buying and selling policy at the shareholders' meeting.

At the meeting on Friday morning, the Italian received quite a bit of criticism for his policy in the player market.

G. Marotta admitted that he had made mistakes and pointed out the biggest one as the signing of defender Jorge Martinez for 12 million euros in the summer of 2010.

"It is true that mistakes were made," - noted the Italian. - The biggest of them was Jorge Martinez, but there is always a chance of making mistakes when making purchases."

"Over the past two years, we have not experienced a revolution, but we have completely renewed the team. Signing contracts with 22 players, we could have made some mistakes somewhere, which is natural."

"Do not forget our investments, which have paid off. Andrea Pirlo and Paul Pogba cost us nothing, we paid only 10 million euros for Arturo Vidal. Last summer, we refused to sell him for 30 million euros. We did this because 'Juventus' does not sell its best players," - justified the general director.

G. Marotta also defended the decision to sell half of the promising forward Ciro Immobile's registration rights to the "Genoa" team.

"To get the maximum from the young players, you must give other clubs the opportunity to do the same. Simple loan agreements in this case are not effective at all. Look at Sebastian Giovinco - we sold half of his contract for 4, bought it back for 11, but now its value is 15 million euros."

The Italian also revealed to the gathered shareholders behind-the-scenes stories about forward Dimitar Berbatov: "After contacting the player, we found out that he never wanted to move to 'Fiorentina'. He was choosing between 'Juventus' and 'Fulham', but Fulham's coach Martin Jol became a decisive factor in persuading Berbatov to stay in England. 'Fiorentina' constantly criticizes us for interfering with their negotiations, but the truth is that we helped them not to make a fool of themselves."
