34th round: Victory separates from the title "Lyon" © EuroFootball.com

This weekend saw the matches of the 34th round of the French "Ligue 1" championship, after which it became clear that "Lyon" team is missing one victory and "Lille" failure in the upcoming round to secure their fourth consecutive champions title.

"Lyon" crushed "Auxerre" 3-0 away on Sunday, and it seems like "Auxerre" are gradually losing their chances to participate in UEFA tournaments next year. "Lyon" dominated throughout the match and already led 2-0 after the first half. In the second half, the score became 3-0 after Cris scored, and "Auxerre" couldn't recover.

Second-placed "Lille" also secured a victory in this round, defeating "Strasbourg" 2-1 and solidifying their position in second place. "Lille" is now the only club with theoretical chances to take the champions trophy from "Lyon".

Exiting the title race after this round is the crisis-hit "Marseille", which dropped from third to fourth place after barely avoiding defeat against "Nantes" - the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

"Monaco" and "Rennes" clubs also won important victories in this round. The former ended their series of failures with a 2-1 home win against "Toulouse", rising to third place. Meanwhile, "Rennes" extended their winning streak by defeating "Istres" 2-0 and cementing their fifth place, but getting closer to "Marseille".

Edgar Jankauskas' "Nice" club suffered another defeat in the tournament. This time, they had to acknowledge the superiority of "P.S.G" from the capital, who won 3-1 as the season nears its end. The Lithuanian player participated in these matches from the 64th minute.
