Legendary Ukrainian footballer Andriy Shevchenko rejected an offer to become the new coach of his homeland's national team.
The 36-year-old striker ended his career last summer, but he did not want to replace Oleg Blokhin, who is now coaching Dynamo Kyiv, in the national team.
"I think that at the moment I am not mature enough to coach the national team," said former Chelsea and Milan player. "I hope that the football federation officials will understand my decision."
Shevchenko, who took part in the Ukrainian parliamentary elections, scored 56 goals in 111 matches for the national team.
In the 2014 World Cup qualifying tournament, Ukraine earned 2 points in 3 rounds in Group H and currently occupies the second-to-last fifth place.
