On Tuesday, two matches were already played in the "A Lyga" championship - the league leader Panevėžio "Ekranas" secured their fifth victory by defeating Vilnius "Žalgiris" at home, Klaipėda's "Atlantas" crushed Kėdainiai's "Nevėžis," "Kaunas" unexpectedly lost at home to "Vėtra," while "Vilnius" and "Sūduva" played to a draw.
Continuing almost error-free, "Ekranas" surged ahead in the 12th minute after a goal by defender A. Klimavičius, and with the team captain M. Savėnas doubling the score with a penalty kick in the 74th minute, they secured another victory for the Panevėžys club.
Meanwhile, "Atlantas" repeated the scenario of the LFF Cup quarter-final match and defeated the league's underdog "Nevėžis" at home. Among the winners, A. Laurišas scored two goals, with V. Trakys, M. Žigutis, and R. Žvingilas each scoring once, while the consolation goal for the losers was scored by M. Juknevičius.
Defending champions "Kaunas" dropped to third place after unexpectedly losing at home to Vilnius "Vėtra," experiencing their second season defeat and their first at home. The capital team coached by former "Kaunas" strategist S. Borovskis had both goals scored by Nigerian legionnaire I. Douglas in the 52nd and 54th minutes.
For the second time in a row, "Vilnius" played at home to a goalless draw, failing to break down Marijampolė's "Sūduva" resistance. The Vilnius team had the best opportunity to score, but in the beginning of the second half, their shot hit the crossbar.
In the upcoming match of the V round, tomorrow "Šilutė" will play against "Šiauliai."
