With the VMFD "Žalgiris" team extending the contract, head coach Marekas Zubas assures that he is far from achieving his goals.

"My work in Lithuania is not finished yet. As soon as I arrived at "Žalgiris", I did not hide that I want to lead this team to the first place in the A league. I failed to do that in a few months, but now I will have more time," says coach Marekas Zubas, who has achieved sixteen victories in seventeen matches with the VMFD "Žalgiris" team.

"Žalgiris players are capable of achieving more next season. We are starting to reveal our potential. There is a good atmosphere in the team. Besides, I really like living in Lithuania. Vilnius is a beautiful city. I feel comfortable in this country. These reasons motivated me to extend the contract.

I think an intriguing season awaits us next year. We will compete for the A league championship title, try to defend the LFF Cup, and perform well in the Europa League qualifiers. We need to prepare for these challenges faster than in half a year. To achieve high results, it is necessary to start the season well. I hope the team will continue to progress rapidly.

There will be changes, but I cannot say how many. I would like the core to remain, but new players are also needed. You never know how successful some players will be, or what their health will be like. We will give young Žalgiris players the opportunity to train with the main team. We hope that they will become professionals in a few years. I am satisfied with the coaches and managers I have worked with.

This week we finished the training process and sent the Žalgiris players on vacation. We will gather again at the beginning of January after New Year. We will prepare in Vilnius until February, then we will go to a training camp. We are considering several options, but we have not made a final decision yet. At the moment, the most relevant questions are about team composition and signing new contracts - extensions.

I am watching what is happening in other teams. I see that some of them are currently going through very difficult times. There is an increasingly large gap between the leaders of the Lithuanian championship and the average teams. This is another reason why people do not come to the stadiums. There is no intrigue, except the fight for the first and third places. Sometimes it would be better if fewer teams played in the strongest league, but with better organized clubs," says M. Zubas.
