The teams started the match cautiously, and the first real chance to score came from the visitors from Liverpool when J.A.Riise received the ball from X.Alonso in the penalty area, outwitted two defenders, but shot straight at P.Cech. Soon after, F.Lampard missed a great opportunity, heading the ball over the goal from a few meters away after a pass from J.Cole.

The game was very evenly matched, and Liverpool tried not to give in to their opponents. Meanwhile, in the 39th minute, the home team was saved by their goalkeeper, who managed to save a headed ball from Baros by punching it into the corner of the goal.

Chelsea started the second half more actively, but they could not break through the organized defense of Liverpool. In turn, the visitors counterattacked, and in the 68th minute, D.Cisse, after a brilliant combination by his teammates in the middle of the field, received the ball in the penalty area but missed the goal.

As the match neared its end, the London team pressed the opponents more, but still could not score - the intrigue remains, and the teams will have to settle the score in the return leg at "Anfield" stadium in a week.
