"Man City" strategist Roberto Mancini regrets that his players withdrew from the UEFA Champions League after the group stage. However, the Italian does not hide the fact that this situation creates more favorable conditions to fight for the title of English champions.
In group D, the English champions finished fourth, behind Amsterdam's "Ajax," Madrid's "Real," and Dortmund's "Borussia." It was precisely the latter whom they lost to 0-1 on Tuesday's away match.
"Of course, this will help us in the domestic championship, as we will not play in the UEFA Europa League," said the Italian. "But we really aimed for that and had set a goal to win."
He continued: "Last season, we performed better. This time, we were in a tough group, and after playing the first two matches unsuccessfully, hoping for success is difficult. Nothing was decided tonight - we had already lost the battle earlier."
