On Wednesday evening, the final matches of the E-H groups of the UEFA Champions League took place, after which all participants of the quarterfinals were revealed.
The most prestigious tournament of the Old Continent was left without champions - the footballers of London's "Chelsea" crushed Farum's "Nordsjaelland" 6-1 at the Stamford Bridge stadium, but did not receive a victory from Donetsk's "Shakhtar" and remained in third place in the group, which opens the door to the Europa League.
In front of their own fans, the Ukrainians lost by a minimal result of 1-0 against Turin's "Juventus," who took the first position in Group A.
Earlier, Munich's "Bayern" and "Valencia" clubs secured their places in the next stage by winning against Borisov's BATE and "Lille" in Group B, respectively.
In Group C, Glasgow's "Celtic" dramatically reached the quarterfinals by defeating Moscow's "Spartak" 2-1 at home, and received good news from Catalonia, where "Barcelona" played a goalless draw against Lisbon's "Benfica," despite missing several key players.
"Barca" coach Tito Vilanova will anxiously await updates from the medics, as team leader Lionel Messi left the field in a stretcher after getting injured during the match.
The last ticket to the next stage in Group C was claimed by Istanbul's "Galatasaray," who earned three points by defeating Manchester United 1-0 on the road, but Cluj CFR, despite winning against "Man Utd," remained in third place due to a worse head-to-head record.
The draw for the Champions League quarterfinals will take place on December 20.
