The 25-year-old referee admitted to cheating in four matches. For this, the German received large sums of money from a Croatian gang that made huge profits by placing massive bets in betting companies.
One of the most sensational R. Hoyzer's refereed matches was the German Cup match between the top league team "Hamburg" and the lower division team "Paderborn". With the referee's help, Hamburg shockingly lost that match. Everyone was particularly surprised by the referee's decision to inexplicably send off "Hamburg" forward Emile Mpenza from the field.
