In the eve of the sixth round of matches of the Lithuanian "A lyga" champions club "Kaunas" a coaching change has taken place - former assistant coach E.Riabovas has become the head coach of the team, replacing V.Ivanauskas who will now be the assistant coach.
Starting the season unsuccessfully, "Kaunas" unexpectedly lost at home to Vilnius "Vėtra" in the last round of matches, suffering their second defeat of the season and dropping to fourth place, already six points behind the league leader Panevėžys "Ekranas".
Such poor results did not satisfy the club's management, so on Thursday rumors spread that V.Ivanauskas would be dismissed, and although these speculations were initially denied, today the new coach E.Riabovas was presented to the players at the team's training session.
E.Riabovas, who was an assistant to coach K.Latoža at "Žalgiris" last season, recently took over coaching duties for the reserve team "Kauno Jėgeriai" and now has been temporarily assigned as the head coach of "Kaunas", while V.Ivanauskas has become his assistant.
It is still unclear whether E.Riabovas will remain in his position for long or if the club will search for a foreign coach. "Kaunas" is now preparing for the match against Vilnius "Žalgiris" at the S.Dariaus and S.Gireno stadium on Saturday (tomorrow).
