On Wednesday evening, six matches of the 17th round of the French "Ligue 1" championship were played.

The country's champions are gaining momentum: "Montpellier" players celebrated their second consecutive victory by defeating "Brest" away. The hosts took the lead at the beginning of the match, but soon conceded an equalizing goal, and in the second half John Utaka secured the victory for the visitors.

Lyon's "Olympique", who have been in great form so far, played a draw at home with the "Nancy" club. The goal scorers were Jordan Loties ("Nancy") and Michel Bastos ("Lyon").

Marseille's "Olympique" managed to maintain their advantage accumulated during the match against the "Bastia" club and clinch a 2-1 victory, ending a two-game winless streak. Mathieu Valbuena and Andre Ayew scored for the winners, with Anthony Modeste scoring a consolation goal.

After 17 rounds, Lyon's players are leading the championship table.
