During the press conference held on Thursday, "Barcelona" midfielder Xavi Hernandez hinted that next week he will sign a new contract with the Catalan club.
"The negotiations are almost finished and I am very satisfied with that, and it should probably be officially announced next week. I can't not tell you about it. "Barcelona" was, is and will be my only choice, so I am happy that I can continue my career here at least until I turn 36," said the Catalan.
According to the newspapers "El Mundo Deportivo" and "Sport", Xavi will sign a contract with "Barcelona" valid until the summer of 2016.
The footballer himself is delighted that the current team remains united and enjoys playing football, even though Josep Guardiola is no longer at the helm: "Yes, the team's coach has changed, but Tito Vilanova has coped excellently with all the tasks. These years have been similar to the previous ones. We still play great football. It's the same team, the same inspiration."
Xavi also took the opportunity to chat with journalists about David Villa and Andres Iniesta.
"Let's not forget that David is important for the team and his role on the field and influence are very important. That was the case in the past and will be in the future. Andrés? He is an incredible footballer, experienced, mature, so he deserves the highest awards," Xavi, who also noted that he is pleased to see Eric Abidal recovering after a liver transplant operation. According to the midfielder, his teammate is happy and full of determination to step back on the field.
