Mario Balotelli turned to the English Premier League to avoid the almost €420,000 fine imposed on him by the Manchester City club.

The 22-year-old footballer was sanctioned because last season, due to suspensions, he missed more than a quarter of Manchester's matches.

Lately, the Italian has lost his place in the main lineup and, by coach Roberto Mancini's decision, appeared in the starting eleven only eight times. He missed the last match in the Premier League against Newcastle.

"Mario is not in good athletic form right now, so he is currently at home," Mancini said. "That's the only reason. He needs to work hard in training and perform well in matches when he gets the opportunity. Balotelli is a top-level footballer, and we expect a lot from him in the second half of the season, but talent must be exploited."

Rumors are swirling that Balotelli will be sold during the winter transfer window. Last summer, "Paris St.Germain" showed a lot of interest in him, but Manchester City rejected the offer.
