According to the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Yaya Toure was chosen as the best footballer because the 29-year-old midfielder had an excellent 2011/12 season, contributing significantly to City's triumph in England. "I am very happy to receive this award. I think this day will be special for me," said the best African footballer. In the second place in the African Footballer of the Year rankings was Didier Drogba, who moved to China this summer after helping London's Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League last season.
