Lithuanian national team defender Marius Stankevičius should leave the Italian championship this month and move from the successful Rome "Lazio" team to Vigo, Spain's "Celta".
According to reports, the footballer, whose contract with the "Serie A" club expires in 2014, is supposed to be loaned until the end of the season with the option to buy the contract for 500,000 euros. Although negotiations are still in the initial stage, it is almost certain that they will end successfully.
The 31-year-old Stankevičius, who was of interest to "Mallorca" in the summer, missed most of this season due to an Achilles tendon injury, and upon returning to the field, he did not hide his desire to prove his worth and establish himself in the "Lazio" team. However, coach Vladimir Petkovičius cannot find a place for the versatile player in the starting eleven.
The Lithuanian would not be a newcomer in Spain: in 2009-2010 he represented "Sevilla", and in the following season - "Valencia". In total, he played 37 matches in the national championship of this country and scored two goals.
"Celta" currently occupies the 15th position in the Spanish championship.
