The Argentine national team forward has been playing for the main Catalan team since 2004, and according to Rob Westerhof, Messi could have ended up in the Netherlands.
"I had quite good relations with the then president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, so I approached him in 2005 about Messi's move to PSV," said the former president to Goal.com.
"The president told me that they have a great young player who will become the best one day. Indeed, we were close to leasing the Argentine, but it didn't happen in the end," added R. Westerhof.
