Defending champions of the Lithuanian "A Lyga" FBK appointed Russian Aleksandr Piskariov as head coach on Tuesday before the 7th round of the championship, as was speculated.
The strategist from Russia took over the leadership of the "Kaunas" team from interim coach Eugenijus Riabovas, who was entrusted with these duties after Valdas Ivanauskas withdrew from his position due to the unsuccessful start of the season.
55-year-old Piskariov is already familiar in the world of Lithuanian football - seven years ago he coached Šiauliai "Kareda" and won the national championship with the club, also winning the cup tournament the following season. During his career, the Russian has coached Russian (and Soviet) youth national teams, as well as several clubs in Russia and Belarus.
Last year, Piskariov spent the season in the Belarusian championship with Minsk's "MTZ-Ripo", which is believed to belong to "Kaunas" owner V. Romanov. The latter seems to have known Piskariov well, and has now entrusted him with the vacant position of the multiple Lithuanian champions' strategist.
A. Piskariov has already led the "Kaunas" training today and will lead the team in the 7th round match against Klaipėda's "Atlantas". His assistants will be determined in the near future - it is possible that V. Ivanauskas will also take on these duties, while E. Riabovas should continue working with the reserve team.
