On Sunday, the English Premier League prepared a real dessert for football fans - in the 22nd round matches, "Man Utd" faced "Liverpool" in front of their own fans, while London's "Arsenal" hosted "Man City."
In the North West derby that started at 15:30 Lithuanian time, Sir Alex Ferguson's players at "Old Trafford" stadium defeated their deadly rivals from Liverpool with a score of 2-1.
In the first half, the "Red Devils" took the lead in the 19th minute of the match when Robin van Persie, the most productive player of the league, sent the ball into the net after a cross from Patrice Evra.
After the break, Nemanja Vidic increased "Man Utd's" lead with a header. The cross to the Serbian was performed by Evra, who has been showing excellent form lately.
The visitors scored their second goal and started to show more dangerous attacks towards the leaders of the championship - in the 57th minute, Liverpool's newcomer Daniel Sturridge was the first to rush to the rebounded ball from David De Gea and narrowed the gap.
The "Reds" launched an assault on the opponents' goal, but Ferguson, who strengthened the defense with substitutions, celebrated a hard-fought victory over Brendan Rodgers' team.
In the other match, "Man City" won 2-0 away against "Arsenal."
The crucial moment of the match happened right at the beginning of the first half - in the 9th minute, "Arsenal's" defender Laurent Koscielny was sent off the field after a last-man foul in the penalty area against Edin Dzeko.
Although Wojciech Szczesny saved Dzeko's shot from the penalty spot, the hosts remaining in a numerical disadvantage could not resist the attacks of Roberto Mancini's army.
Thanks to James Milner's and Dzeko's accurate strikes in the first half, the "Man City" players defending the Premier League title gathered a significant advantage.
In the 75th minute, the "Citizens" lost a player when Vincent Kompany saw a red card for a rough foul against an opponent, but the "Arsenal" club in sixth place on the table could not turn the events in their favor.
