Several players and staff members of the "Juventus" club have been disqualified and fined thousands of euros for criticizing the referee.
The members of the "Bianconeri" club were furious after referee Marco Guida did not award a penalty kick to the Genoa team's goal despite an obvious handball in the penalty area at the end of the match. The game ended in a 1 - 1 draw.
Sports referee Gianpaolo Tosel decided to disqualify coach Antonio Conte and defender Leonardo Bonucci for two matches and fine them 10,000 euros each because they, according to him, "intimidated the referee and assistant behind the goal, insulted them, repeated comments, and acted aggressively."
Injured defender Giorgio Chiellini ran out of the stands to confront the referees, so he was given a one-match suspension, as well as to striker Mirko Vučiniči, who protested despite already receiving several warnings.
Club director Giuseppe Marotta has been suspended from duty until February 18th, and the club has also been fined 50,000 euros in addition to the aforementioned individual fines.
Interestingly, both the sideline and additional goal-line referees witnessed the incident and reported it to the field referee Marco Guida, but the latter commented on the situation saying, "I didn't feel a penalty was necessary."
The Turin team travels to play against "Chievo" away next Sunday, and just six days later they will host the "Fiorentina" club at home.
