The English press reports that Manchester United defender Phil Jones has been struck by shingles and may miss the first UEFA Champions League round of 16 match against Real Madrid.
Jones missed the narrowly won match against Fulham, and it was later announced that he would also be unable to play for the England U21 team. "Man Utd" did not comment on the reason.
However, English U21 team coach Stuart Pearce confirmed that Jones has shingles: "There's not much we can do about it. It's unfortunate because with Phil we are stronger. Now there's a chance for someone else."
This shingles is similar to chickenpox and its symptoms can last around two weeks. Whether Jones will recover in time for the trip to the Spanish capital will depend on their severity.
