Four-time best football player on the planet Lionel Messi has connected his future with the Catalan club.
On Thursday evening, the Argentine arrived at the headquarters of Barcelona and put his signature on the new contract, valid until the summer of 2018.
The previous footballer's contract with the Catalan team was valid until June 30, 2016, but last December, Barcelona officially announced the successful completion of negotiations with its leader for an additional agreement valid for two more seasons.
The buyout clause amount was left unchanged by mutual agreement. It amounts to 250 million euros. Any team wishing to acquire the Argentine without direct negotiations with Barcelona would have to pay this sum.
According to unofficial data, Messi's salary is expected to increase to at least 11 million euros after the new contract comes into force, net of taxes.
Messi became the third Barcelona player this year to sign a new contract. Earlier, the team captain Carles Puyol and midfielder Xavi Hernandez had confirmed their decision to continue their careers at the Catalan club by signing new agreements.
