In the forefront of the attack at the age of 27, Vedran Gercas became the second forward of the Vilnius city football league team "Žalgiris".
The player, who participated in a training camp in Croatia, arrived in Lithuania and put his signature under the contract. Gercas will form striking power in the attack alongside Kamilius Bilinskis, who scored 17 goals last season.
The footballer born in Rijeka started his professional career with the HNK team of this city. For seven years (2004-2011), V. Gercas played 30 matches and scored 6 goals. In the 2004/05 season, the Croat spent the season on loan at "ND FC Ljubljana" in Slovenia, scoring a goal in eight matches.
In 2011, the footballer moved to another team in the top league of Croatia, "NK Zadar", and a year later to "NK Karlovac". Last season, V. Gercas finished in Malaysia, with the "Kedah FA" club. The player, who is 184 cm tall, scored 9 goals in the net in 15 matches.
The Croat is expected to appear on the field on Friday in friendly matches at Vilnius "Sportima" with the Latvian champion Daugavpils "Daugava".
Also joining the Žalgiris team is Ignas Plūkas, a goalkeeper for the Lithuania U-21 national team, who previously played for the Football Community Club (F.B.K.) "Kaunas".
The 19-year-old goalkeeper, who has been living in the capital for about a month, will first be the main goalkeeper for the VMFD "Žalgiris-3" team competing in the LFF I league, with the prospect of joining the main team.
"We agreed that I will first practice in the I league, be the main goalkeeper for "Žalgiris-3", and sometimes I will also get a chance to play for the main team, with which I will constantly train. Later, it will be seen if I can establish myself there," Plūkas told the website fbk-kaunas.lt.
Having helped F.B.K. "Kaunas" achieve several victories, the goalkeeper received offers from A league clubs after the last season.
"Not only VMFD "Žalgiris" was interested, but also Panevezys "Ekranas", Marijampole "Sūduva", Pakruojis "Kruoja".
"I liked the Žalgiris team the most, so I decided to choose them, even though the conditions offered by the residents of Vilnius and Panevezys were similar, but I wanted to be in the capital more," Plūkas said.
The talented footballer will be trained in the team of the Lithuanian vice-champions by goalkeeper coach Artūras Ramoška, with whom I. Plūkas has already worked at the F.B.K. "Kaunas" club. "
