For the sixth time, the Sports Journalists Club "PRESS" of the Lithuanian Journalists Union (LŽS) is organizing the Lithuanian Journalists Football Championship, which traditionally takes place at the Vilnius arena "Sportima." Due to the main tournament sponsor "Orakulo," a total of twelve teams will compete for the champions' cup this year.

"Although basketball is considered the second religion in Lithuania, sports journalists prefer to play football. This is evidenced by the constantly growing number of participants in the Lithuanian Journalists Football Championship - three new teams will debut this year," says Tautvydas Vencevičius, the chairman of "PRESS."

As usual, two teams from "PRESS" will play in the Lithuanian championship. In addition to the other veterans - representatives from Kaunas, Klaipėda, Panevėžys media, LRT employees, Vilnius University Journalism Institute students, and the public relations team "Propaganda" - this time newcomers will join: journalists from "Lietuvos rytas," "Delfi.lt," and "Futbolo.tv." Also, journalists from Bryansk (Russia) will arrive in Vilnius as guests. The championship will award the best football-playing journalists in Lithuania with special prizes from "Vytautas" mineral water and the publishing house "Šiaurės Lietuva."

The winners of the Lithuanian championship will earn the right to play in the traditional international journalists' football tournament. This tournament, held for the ninth consecutive year, will take place in May in Druskininkai.

"Every year, not only the Lithuanian Journalists Football Championship is held in Lithuania, but also an international journalists' football tournament. In addition, Lithuanian sports journalists regularly participate in football tournaments abroad. This year, we have already received invitations to tournaments in Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, and Russia," says T. Vencevičius.

So far, teams from the capital have triumphed in all five Lithuanian Journalists Football Championships. "PRESS" and the second team of the LŽS Sports Journalists Club "Freelancers" have each won the champions' cup twice, while VU Journalism Institute students won once.
