35th round: "Lyon" - four-time "Ligue 1" champions © EuroFootball.com

In the 35th round of the French "Ligue 1" championship, the "Lyon" club secured the gold medals in the league after a victory at home against "Ajaccio," with three matches left until the end of the season acquiring a sufficient 11-point advantage over "Lille." This was already the fourth consecutive champion title won by "Lyon."

Starting the season poorly, "Lyon" took the leader position in the 10th round of the championship and almost did not give it up in the remaining part of the season, although they secured the title of winners slightly later than the new champions of other major countries such as "Chelsea," "Bayern," or "PSV."

"Lyon" could theoretically have celebrated already on Saturday, but they defeated "Lille," who held the second position. So the Lyon footballers had to secure the first place by themselves, and they did it - even though Juninho missed a penalty kick, the precise strikes of S.Govou and Cacapos determined the victory for the hosts.

"Lille" took a significant step in the fight for the second ticket to the next season's UEFA Champions League, at home, as mentioned earlier, they defeated the capital's "P.S.G" with a minimal advantage and increased their lead over "Monaco" in third place to 3 points.

"Monaco" on Saturday failed to defeat "Rennes," who are in fifth place - the match ended in a draw. Meanwhile, the latter won an important point and got even closer to "Marseille" in fourth place, which has been experiencing a crisis lately and surprisingly lost 2-3 to the outsider "Caen," just a few days after dismissing the head coach Patrick Remi.

Edgaras Jankauskas' "Nice" club ended up on the brink. The Nice team, in which Lithuanian national team striker was once again not registered, played to a draw with "Nantes" on Saturday, so after the victory against "Istres," they are only one point away from relegation to a lower division.
